How to Train New Salon Staff on Your Software

By Santurg  ·  May 2026  ·  8 min read

New staff adoption is one of the biggest barriers to getting full value from your salon software. When stylists feel overwhelmed by the system, they find workarounds — paper notes, personal phone reminders, texting clients directly — that defeat the purpose of having a platform.

The One-Day Onboarding System

Effective software onboarding for salon staff can be completed in one 4-hour session, broken into four modules:

Module 1: The Calendar (1 hour)

Everything the stylist needs to do their daily work:

Module 2: Checkout (45 minutes)

Module 3: Client Notes (45 minutes)

Module 4: Their Own Settings (30 minutes)

The Key to Fast Adoption: Real Appointments

Do not train on demo data. Use a real test client (a friend or family member) and go through a complete booking-to-checkout flow during training. Nothing builds confidence like successfully completing the actual workflow.

Post-Training Support

For the first week, designate a "software buddy" — a more experienced staff member who handles questions. Most questions come in the first 3 days and stop almost completely by day 7.

Keep a simple reference card at each station covering: how to check in a client, how to process checkout, and how to add a note. Physical reference materials dramatically reduce training questions in the first week.
